Fine motor skills refer to the use of the small muscles in the hands and wrists, including the fingers and thumb and can also include the toes, feet, lips and tongue of your child. Fine motor skills are used by children to undertake many tasks. The development of fine motor skills will help your child to achieve strength such as Grasping a Pencil etc. This will also allow for the improvement of gross motor skills.
Developing these fine motor skills will also develop strength, hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
To help improve your child’s fine motor skills, there are several techniques, games and tools that can be used. This includes the use of visual aids, wooden toys and other educational resources supplied by Sensory Learning Supplies. For example:
Expanda-ball- A simple colourful toy used for hand-eye coordination, grasping, pulling and rolling.
Junior engineer workshop for older children to develop coordination, construction and grasping skills.
Magnetic doodle board- An ideal way to develop art skills, drawing and movement with your children.
We also have a variety of fidget packs that are a very popular and fun way of improving fine motor skills.
