Christmas Sensory Toys

November 26, 2021FionnBlogNo comments

Christmas is the time of year that most look forward to, it’s the time of year we can all spend time with family and friends and give gifts. However, it can be a challenging time to find suitable gifts for kids who experience sensory overload. Lot’s of toys are not so helpful because of the noise and lights the produce. At Sensory Learning Supplies, we aim to try to make everyone’s Christmas a memorable one.

Christmas is a wonderful season. We all often associate certain smells like gingerbread baking, pine needles from trees or something triggered from a previous family moment, textures and sounds with this time of year. So it is a fantastic reminder and chance for us to put more thought into the impact that senses can have on others.

Christmas Gift Ideas

To help improve your child’s fine motor skills this year, there are several techniques, games and toys that can be used. These include the use of visual aids, wooden toys and other educational resources supplied by Sensory Learning Supplies. For example;

  • Expanda-ball is A simple colourful toy used for hand-eye coordination, grasping, pulling and rolling.
  • Junior Engineer Workshop for older children to develop coordination, construction and grasping skills.
  • Magnetic Doodle Board is an ideal way to develop art skills, drawing and movement with your children.

We also have a variety of fidget packs that are a very popular and fun way of improving fine motor skills.

Some children often struggle to communicate their needs and feelings effectively. It’s important to have methods in place to help children with underdeveloped verbal, comprehension and processing times.

At Sensory Learning Supplies, we have a big range of communication aids for both the home and the classroom that can help children to express themselves and to help them understand you and the world around them.

Rainbow poppets are colourful and playful visual aids that can help a child with coordination, as a possible communication device and a fun toy to develop fine motor skills.

Sensory Art

When travelling, you may want to gift something that is entertaining and fun, while also being great for learning and keeping focused. Sensory Art on The Move will keep your children occupied while on a drive or travelling. It also helps with gross motor skills, drawing and comprehension.

Covid Friendly Sensory Pack

We give schools a helping hand. We have had many enquiries from schools and creches looking for recommendations for the best covid-friendly sensory products that are easy to clean and disinfect. In response, we have put this package together. All products included in our Covid Friendly Sensory Package are easily wipeable to ensure each product maintains a clean surface.

Sensory Ball Pool

The Sensory Ball Pool provides a wonderful sensory experience with the coloured balls allowing for a creative play session to commence. The Sensory Ball Pool is very popular and provides lots of fun and entertainment.

Sensory Room Items

Sensory rooms are very beneficial for kids. It’s great to have a place to relax and feel comfortable.

We offer a wide range of items that will make a great addition to any sensory room;

  • Bubble tubes
  • Fibre optics
  • Interactive surfaces
  • MSE Kits

Importance of Sensory Play on Christmas

Sensory play may be a popular phrase at the moment, but that doesn’t mean that it is just a passing phase. We believe that as more and more research continues to come out that highlights the benefits of sensory play, it will only increase in prevalence among early childhood educators and parents.

Sensory play is any activity that involves engaging the senses. Generally speaking, the more senses you can include, the better.

Christmas is a time when we should all be able to enjoy the lights and the festive gifts.

Kids learn about themselves and the world around them through their senses and feelings. When the senses are engaged, neural pathways in the brain are being created. These neural pathways are what will help your child in learning throughout their life.

Another benefit to sensory play could be considered the most important one, it’s really fun and exciting.
